This mural celebrates the community and creative culture of Howick. Like us, the owners Bill and Diane have respective textile and large-scale painting practices with Diane creating vibrant quilts and Bill adorning his barn with hand-painted barn quilts. To echo this, we endeavoured to depict the nearby Turcot bridge and its reflexion in addition to a kaleidoscope quilted piece, a process Diane introduced us to, which represents six local pollinators: moths, wasps, hummingbirds, bees, butterflies and the wind. At the center of it all, a barn swallow towers over us. These often overlooked barn dwellers are celebrated here using 13000 coloured mosaic pieces. Our work aims to celebrate all the contributors who, together, make our world vibrant.
